FW racing in the bay (plan B)

Although all agreed it would be great to support Shake-A-Leg racing series, everyone also agreed that it doesn't work for us logistically, location and timing is just not practical to have a good FW race weekly. So, with that in mind, new plan emerged, we're going to pick one day midweek and one over the weekend(depending on wind forecast, etc.), race start 5:30 p.m. (midweek) and 2 p.m. (weekend),
location - causeway, starting marker - last beach buoy near the bridge, and using the channel marker by
the sandbar as a second buoy, will use it as a upwind or downwind marker depending on the wind direction, one or 2 laps. First try, this coming Sunday - see you at the beach!
Let me know who's in

  2. no expense - no fee
we might want to do a bar hop midweek after the race...

  3. I think we ought to keep things simple. Let's just decide for Wednesdays at 5:00 PM for the midweek stuff. No open days or decision by committee because that quickly turns into decision by indecision.

  4. Is there a way to predict Sea breeze in Miami?

  5. Short answer to see breeze prediction is - NO...
The area is too unstable with Atlantic/ Gulf and
Everglades in the mix, as I always say, if we only had some mountains just west of Miami to give us some solid.

The only true solutions is formula board / larger sail, extra free time and lots of praying

  7. ooh, that's a big no, no... kite link :(
there're basic rules why for sea breazes:
    clear skies, hot temps, colder sea waters and easterly winds make it more of a sure thing in Miami;
but we do get westerly winds, cloudy days and
water get's too warm in summer...

  8. We seem to be going into summer time pattern, breezy to windy some afternoons or most of them. Storms or isolated showers. Big sails are a must or a nice SUP with a 7.5 sail will do the trick.

  9. Most people should understand how sea breeze work and how it can be predicted.
There is a big Formula crowd in Miami and most of them rely on the forecasts. These forecasts sometimes are not acurrate and will cause precious days/afternoons to be lost. We need more time in the water to represent our little town.

  10. Ditto to last anonymous post. Yesterday after work, I had a fantastic time with the sea breeze, winds gusting near 20mph range, enough wind to waterstart from my 12m sail. Let just hope the sea breeze keeps up for the "FW racing at the bay". :)

  11. As far as I know, the 6pm means that no cars are allow in the parking area after that time, it does not mean you have to leave. We are normally open until 7pm but because of the closing of the gates, we might remain open only until 6pm.
County had public meetings many times before remodeling the area, all input was good then not now, we might be able to bend a few rules if we behave like adults, unlike the idiots kiting behaviour that i witnesses today.,

  14. This is work in progress, people are testing out
diff. course options, ideas, there was an
impromptu drag racing on formula just about every day lately.
