US National Wind map

Found this pretty cool wind map, thought I share it with my wind loving buddys. Live wind data seems to feed the interative map, check out the winds for Hurricane Sandy.. http://hint.fm/wind/

Only in Miami

For those not Dexter fans, last week the Miami serial killer packed a body in a Pro Lite windsurfing board bag.  Not sure how he fit it in there, it looked like a small wave board that he took out.

In anticipation

A week or so before I get to unwrap the new weapon for high wind slalom. According to 'maestro' the board came out at 10.6 lb naked and looks amazing.... As always, the wait is killing me right at the end...

OK, she's home

Re: Shark Attacks

Here's good news for the nervous: According to the International Shark Attack File, there have been only 11 confirmed unprovoked shark attacks in Dade County waters since 1882, with the only fatality recorded in 1961.

Study of Surfer Fitness

Of course, windsurfing is quite different, but still interesting, especially the part about peak heart rate after riding the wave.

I thought it would be only fair to show this one above, this is combo USPS/DHL shipping
to get my new state of the art weed fin, but unlike my latest sail/mast that took 1.5 day to get from China to Miami, this time it took almost a month, I would've bet it would be other way around, considering German reputation for precision and order... One more example that you can't make superficial judgment calls...
Fin looks good though, and I hope to give it a test against Biscayne Bay weeds later this week.

Fun time with the practice course race

For does of you who missed out on all the fun yesterday, a few of us engaged in a battle of the bouys race practice course along the windsurfers beach bouy and the Vizcaya channel marker. We had a fantastic time pushing our skills and our gear. The course was setup as the typical up wind down wind course from the east (9-17knots) winds. There was no fancy prizes, no fancy promoters just us Miami locals' competing for formula windsurfing braggin rights. Believe it or not, I learn a few things and I am sure others did too.

Any volunteers to organize the race??? (Cancelled: Alex Caviglia Race)

See below:
This weekend definitely too late, I’d say we’d need at least 3 weeks to prep for the race,
let me see if there’re any volunteers...

Hi Sergio,

Sounds good.  Windguru thinks wind for Saturday.  NOAA should weigh in tomorrow with a forecast through Saturday.  If you are thinking this weekend, obviously it would be pretty loosely organized.  As far as a future event, more organized, it sounds good.  Do it.  I'll help with the emails.  Pick a date.  Next organized race is the end of February in Sarasota.

Here’s the link, where causeway group have discussed possibility of the race,
long distance  for all sailing levels. There still some interest. Event permit with Ovidio’s help would cost ~$350,
We’d need 1-2 support boats, 2-3 buoys and some door prices.

Subject: Alex Caviglia Race

Hi,

If you haven't heard, the Alex Caviglia Race is not happening on the originally proposed date.  I spoke to Silvia Caviglia and the Surf Expo is the same weekend as the race would have been.  This year as Shake A Leg was not a major part of the regatta so her help was coming from people involved in the Expo so it couldn't happen.  Still in the planning stages is another date, early October is being discussed, but 2013 is looking good.  Silvia has listened to our concerns of race management and launching issues and is planning to address those for a better next regatta.  Always a worthy cause the regatta is planned with love, the memory of Alex Caviglia, the windsurfing and water community in mind.  We're looking forward to news on the upcoming event.

Depending on the forecast is there any interest in an impromptu event of some sort to replace the ACBC event?  Let me know those interested can put our heads together and see if we can have some fun and make something happen.

Later,

Ron
